Together, we can

save babies!

This website is intended to give you information about safe sleeping habits to help decrease the risk of SIDS.

As a pediatrician, I care deeply about safe sleep…

… and once I became a parent, I wanted to do the best I could to protect my babies. But I found that, despite being a pediatrician, I still had lingering questions about safe sleep- what exactly is considered a firm sleep surface? Is this crib OK? How do I know if a bassinet meets the standards of the CPSC? What is considered overheating? Why is it that there are so many advertisers that show unsafe sleep practice, and how is it that there are unsafe products known to increase the risk of death still marketed and sold in the United States?

American Academy of Pediatrics 2022 recommendations

Thankfully, the American Academy of Pediatrics task force on SIDS came out with updated 2022 recommendations (the most recent updated recommendations) which answered many of those questions. I put together SIDSRisk.org which combines information from these updated 2022 recommendations, the evidence basis for these recommendations, centers for disease control (CDC), journal articles, national institutes of health (NIH), my pediatrics training and tips from motherhood.

Join the Effort to Educate

I am also hoping to harness the power of our users to join in the effort educate parents, caretakers, leaders and media to encourage normalizing safe sleep practices in marketing materials, movies, and all forms of media. Together, we can save babies!
